Rescued

I have been away out of town for work this week and called into
Christofer Robyn Quilts in Wanaka.

While I was there an elderly lady popped in with a piece of cross stitch.

This was rescued from the rubble  of her daughters house in Christchurch after the very first
earthquake in September.

The daughter had originally started it to give to her grandmother, but she passed away before it could be finished.

The daughters mother tucked it away in her purse and bought it in to the girls at CRQ, to be
made into a cushion.

I was drawn to the stitched piece and noticed the three unfinished flowers, but there was also something else.

Aside from the unfinished flowers and the small stain on the front.

A very large black boot imprint on the back.

I have Danish Flower Threads in my thread stash and offered to take it home and finish the flowers, wash it up and send it back to Wanaka, where the girls will make it up into a cushion.

The daughters mother then plans to give it back to her daughter, when her new house is completed in a year or so.

It's such a lovely story and one I feel privileged to be a part of, as this elderly lady bought the cross stitch into the shop on the 1st anniversary of the February 22nd Earthquake.

One of many heart felt stories that have emerged from tragedy.

Hope you have all had a good week, Friday tomorrow YAY!!!

Take care
